School of Ministry Development

Spring SOMD Starts: March 16th, 2021

What Is An SOMD?

You’ve experienced God in a radical way during DTS and now you want to help make the same thing happen for others. SOMD will further equip you to make a difference in the world, whether it’s on a university campus, in the work place, or in a remote third-world village. In order to be effective in ministry you need to understand how God designed you, others, and your God given gifts and strengths. SOMD is designed to equip you to do all these things and prepare you for ministry.

Lecture Know God

3 Months in Texas, USA

SOMD Lecture Phase is set up similar to DTS, with three months living in a live/learn community. SOMD is designed to individualize the skills and purpose you’ve discovered in DTS, and teach you how to apply them to your own call of God. As well, SOMD will also help equip you with tools in pioneering your own ministry to further God’s kingdom in the world.

Live/Learn Community

Our hope at YWAM Wylie is that in our live/learn community setting, you do not only gain knowledge, but you learn how to apply it and reflect the image of Christ.

Community Responsibilities

Students will be assigned tasks around base as a way to get plugged in and do their part in our community; whether that be on grounds, in the kitchen, or with housekeeping.

Local Outreach

We are very involved in our local community. We spend time each week pouring into those around us through building projects, tutoring local youth, and evangelism.

You will meet with a staff member for one-on-one discipleship throughout Lecture Phase. In small groups, you have the opportunity to share and grow with your classmates and group leaders.

We offer tracks as a way to use your passions as a a form of ministry. Our current tracks are Classic, Children as Risk, Construction, Refugees, and Photography & Storytelling.

Outreach Make God Known

2 Months of Overseas Missions

During outreach, you apply all you learned in lecture phase, practically, as you go into the nations and share the love of God. You will live immersed in a culture not your own, obeying the Lord’s commission to go, sharing the gospel, serving local ministries and making disciples. Currently our three focus areas include Central Africa, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East
